What is Botox?

Botox, the most commonly performed minimally invasive cosmetic procedure in North America for over 20 years, is a muscle relaxer which comes in the form of a purified protein. Botox is the trade name for botulinum toxin, a safe prescription medication that is traditionally injected into facial muscles to reduce wrinkles.

What is Juvederm?

Juvederm is the #1 dermal filler in the US and is made of hydraulic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body.

Uses for Dermal Fillers:

  • add volume
  • lifting cheeks
  • smoothing lines
  • plumping lips

Why is Botox and Juvederm offered by my dentist?

Who has had more advanced training in the oral and maxillofacial areas than dentists? The face is where we live every day! Our medical team at Tupelo Smiles is much more familiar with how to care for and treat complications in the facial areas than most healthcare providers. Without question, our daily in-office experience guarantees our proficiency in facial injections and our first-hand knowledge of muscles involved in mastication and facial expression.

Can Botox and Juvederm be used for more than smoothing wrinkles?

Yes! Botox and Juvederm have important clinical uses that complement and enhance many dental procedures, highlighting cosmetic treatments, such as veneers, teeth whitening, and cosmetic bonding. When it comes to oral conditions that cause chronic facial pain, such as TMJ, jaw clenching, grinding teeth, and new dentures, Botox can greatly reduce the intensity of muscle contractions. Dermal fillers can be used for high lip line cases, asymmetrical lips around the mouth, and lip augmentation. Dr. Kenney and Dr. Caron are ready to explore potential treatment options with you.

How long do treatments take and how long do they last?

Botox and Juvederm procedures take 5-15 minutes, providing almost immediate results in one appointment. The effects of Botox typically last 3-4 months, at which time the patient requires retreatment. Juvederm will last 4-6 months on average.

Are these injections painful?

The needles used for injection are small, so pain is minimal. When compared to other healthcare providers, we have the reputation of knowing how to deliver quick, comfortable, and relatively painless injections, as we inject anesthetic for a living. Your comfort is of utmost importance to us.

We are in the practice of restoring smiles, and we are proud to be able to expand our treatment choices by offering Botox and dermal fillers. We are the experts when it comes to lip to teeth ratios, partial and full smile considerations, and the relationship of teeth with the soft tissue surrounding the mouth. We want you to enjoy your smile to the fullest! Call us today to schedule a consultation with Dr. Kenney or Dr. Caron. We look forward to discussing best options with you!
