Comprehensive General Dentistry for the Whole Family
At Tupelo Smiles, we proudly offer comprehensive family dentistry services to help you and your loved ones experience a lifetime of healthy smiles. Drs. Caron and Kenney are both extremely well versed at treating children, and they will work hard to ensure each visit is a positive experience. In addition, by undergoing routine visits at our practice with your child, you can help to instill the importance of proper oral care.
Ongoing general dentistry care is essential, and at Tupelo Smiles Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, we provide thorough dental services to help you maintain oral health. Routine cleanings and exams allow your dentist to remove plaque and bacteria and to check for signs of decay, gum disease, and oral cancer. We use advanced tools like digital x-rays and intraoral cameras to detect and treat cavities in their earliest stages. We also offer sealants and fluoride treatments to help young patients achieve and maintain oral health.
A straight smile benefits your appearance, self-confidence, and oral health. Crooked teeth can lead to decay, bruxism (teeth grinding), and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder, among other conditions. To enhance the aesthetics and health of your smile, we offer complete orthodontic care, including traditional metal braces, clear ceramic braces, self-litigating braces, and Invisalign®. Our dentists will conduct a thorough exam and help you choose the orthodontic option that is best suited to your needs and budget.
Root Canal Therapy
When decay spreads to the inner portion of a tooth, a root canal may be necessary to save the outer structure of the tooth and protect the rest of your smile from infection. During root canal therapy, your dentist will remove the infected pulp from inside the tooth. Next, he will fill the tooth with a soft rubber material, seal it with a filling, and place a custom-made dental crown to protect the tooth. Our dentists take advanced measures to minimize any discomfort during this procedure.
Gum disease occurs when pockets of bacteria develop below the gum line. We offer a variety of treatments for mild to severe gum disease. Scaling and root planing are the most common treatments used to eliminate bacteria from below the gum line. If you have more advanced gum disease, you may benefit from laser therapy, which uses a high-power laser to eliminate bacteria. Your gums are the foundation of your smile, and we offer effective treatments to help you maintain excellent oral health.
The temporomandibular joints (TMJs) are the complex hinges that give the jaw a wide range of motion. TMJ disorder can occur because the the soft disc inside these joints slips out of place, the surrounding tissues become inflamed, or the muscles and tendons that govern TMJ movement become strained because of an imbalanced bite. TMJ disorder symptoms include, jaw pain, chronic headaches, migraines, neck and shoulder pain, teeth grinding, and more. We offer a variety of treatment options, including customized mouth guards that can realign your jaw to alleviate pressure and prevent clenching and grinding.
Sleep Apnea Treatment
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) occurs when the soft tissues of the throat collapse during sleep, blocking your airway. Each time this happens, you awaken very briefly. Since this can happen hundreds of times every night, sufferers may experience chronic exhaustion and irritability, among other symptoms. Over time, sleep apnea can increase your risk of heart disease. You may be surprised to learn that a dentist can treat your sleep apnea. Our customized night guards can realign your jaw and keep your airways open while you sleep, providing effective relief from sleep apnea.
Although Drs. Caron and Kenney will always try to save your tooth, some teeth are simply too damaged to repair. During an extraction, the dentist will numb your tooth, gums, and jawbone to minimize any discomfort. Before removing your tooth, your dentist will explain your restorative options and create a comprehensive treatment plan. In addition to removing damaged teeth, Drs. Caron and Kenney frequently perform wisdom tooth extraction.
At Tupelo Smiles, we proudly treat patients of all ages, and we recommend that children attend regular dental visits right after their second birthday. Drs. Caron and Kenney have years of experience working with kids and can instruct them on proper oral hygiene techniques. We also offer a variety of treatments specifically tailored to meet our pediatric patients’ needs, including sealants and fluoride treatments.
If you feel anxious when you visit the dentist, our sedation options can help you feel relaxed while we deliver the treatment you need. We offer two types of sedation: nitrous oxide and oral conscious sedation. Nitrous oxide, or “laughing gas,” can cause feelings of deep relaxation. It takes effect and wears off quickly. If you use oral conscious sedation, you will remember very little of your procedure, and will need a friend or family member to drive you home after your appointment.
