Enhance Your Smile with Dental Veneers

What are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are a popular cosmetic dentistry solution made of extremely thin yet durable porcelain. These customized ceramic shells are bonded to the front of your teeth to conceal small cosmetic imperfections and improve the appearance of small or irregularly shaped teeth. We use digital imaging to make wearable mockups to provide you with a preview of your results, allowing you to provide feedback and customize your treatment. Our dentists prefer a conservative approach to veneer placement, and will never remove more enamel than necessary.

Drs. Richard A. Caron and John P. Kenney proudly offer custom porcelain veneers to our patients in Tupelo and the surrounding areas. Porcelain veneers have become an increasingly popular treatment, thanks to their natural appearance and wide range of uses. These thin porcelain shells are bonded to the front of your teeth, covering imperfections like chips and cracks, and improving the appearance of small or irregularly shaped teeth. At Tupelo Smiles Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, we work with an excellent dental lab and use strong, natural-looking porcelain to provide outstanding custom veneers. Placing Veneers

Smiliing tan woman leaning her neck backPorcelain veneers require at least two office visits. During your first visit, Dr. Caron or Dr. Kenney will develop your treatment plan, working with you to address your specific goals. If you are receiving traditional veneers, the dentist will prepare your teeth by removing a thin layer of enamel to make room for the veneers. This allows them to be placed flush against your teeth for a natural look.

Drs. Caron and Kenney always try to preserve as much of your natural tooth structure as possible, removing the least amount of enamel needed to accommodate the veneer. In addition to traditional veneers, we also offer a minimal-prep option. By using thinner porcelain, our dentists can reduce the amount of enamel that needs to be removed. In some cases, they may even be able to apply the veneers directly on top of your enamel, with no alteration necessary. However, this option is not suitable for every patient’s needs and goals. Your dentist will work with you to determine the right type of veneers for you.

After any necessary preparation is complete, your dentist will take impressions and pictures of your teeth. He will use advanced imaging software and wax-ups to show you what your smile will look like the following treatment. He can even provide you with a wearable mockup, allowing you to preview how the veneers will look and feel in your mouth. You can provide feedback based on the mockup, and this information can be used to refine your permanent veneers.

These impressions and images will be sent to our partner dental lab, where technicians will create your veneers to precise size, shape, and shade specifications. While you are waiting for your veneers, we will provide temporary restorations to protect your teeth and help minimize sensitivity. After about two weeks, when the permanent veneers are complete, your doctor will lightly etch the surface of your teeth, apply a bonding agent, and attach each veneer using a specialized dental cement.

Applications & Benefits

Veneers have a number of applications, and you may choose this treatment to correct several cosmetic issues at once. Veneers can:

  • Hide severe discoloration that is unresponsive to traditional teeth whitening
  • Conceal the natural shape of worn or chipped teeth
  • Function as “instant orthodontics” by improving the appearance of gaps between teeth and concealing slightly crooked teeth
  • Cover cracks or other surface blemishes

Veneers have several other notable advantages. First, they are extremely easy to care for – all you need to do is maintain good dental hygiene and routine visits to the dentist. Second, veneers are durable. With proper care, they can last a decade or more. Porcelain veneer placement also involves minimal discomfort. Although you may experience some minor sensitivity while you are waiting for your permanent veneers, this discomfort typically subsides within a week or two after you receive your permanent veneers. Finally, porcelain veneers look extremely natural. No one will be able to tell your veneers from your natural teeth.
